As a registered architectural practice, we offer a comprehensive, integrated architecture and interior design service.
When you partner with Hayman + Charlton, you work directly with our directors, Hannah and Craig. While our preferred approach is to guide you through our complete, end-to-end service to ensure the highest quality outcome, we also offer flexible, stage-by-stage engagements tailored to the specific needs of your project.
We work both locally and internationally, with the majority of our work being split between Australia and Africa. We have successfully designed and overseen several regional and international projects through clear and collaborative digital communication with strategic site visits where required.
1. PRE-DESIGN & DISCOVERY
Every successful project begins with a conversation. We take the time to understand your vision, requirements, timeline, and budget. From there, we assess your site’s unique opportunities and navigate the local planning regulations to establish a clear, realistic foundation for your project.
2. CONCEPT DESIGN
This is where your vision takes shape. Using a blend of hand-drawn sketches, physical models, and 3D computer visualisations, we explore the architectural possibilities of your site. We present these concepts to you face-to-face, refining the design together until it perfectly aligns with your aspirations.
3. DESIGN DEVELOPMENT & APPROVALS
With the concept finalised and indicative costs established, we develop the design into fully resolved detailed architectural drawings. We then manage the entire development approval process on your behalf, liaising with local authorities and navigating the red tape so you don't have to.
4. CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTATION
Precision is critical to the construction phase. With the design and interiors resolved, we produce the comprehensive technical drawings, schedules, and specifications required to build the project. During this stage, we coordinate all necessary external consultants—such as structural engineers and landscape architects—integrating their expertise into a unified package. This thorough documentation provides the building contractor with a clear, accurate framework to deliver the project exactly as intended.
5. INTERIOR DESIGN
Interior design is integral to the overall design process, and we begin thinking about interiors as we start concept design. We select and specify materials, finishes, lighting, and fixtures, and detail custom joinery tailored to your specific requirements. By managing the interior design alongside the architecture, we ensure the internal spaces are purposeful, highly resolved, and completely cohesive with the broader design intent.
6. BUILDER SELECTION & TENDERING
The right builder is essential to realising the design. Whether we manage a competitive tender process to secure the best value, or collaborate with your preferred building contractor from day one, we provide expert guidance to ensure the final contract protects your interests.
7. CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
During the build, we act as your advocate on site. We work closely with the construction team to ensure our exacting standards are met, timelines are tracked, and the design intent is executed flawlessly. We remain by your side through to final project completion, giving you complete peace of mind.
