Project Summary

Tugun Beach Bungalow is an alteration and addition to an existing beachside cottage. The house sits on a steeply sloping block with tricky access and beautiful views to Coolangatta Headland to the south.

The design balances a tight budget with an ambitious brief. Externally, the house uses conventional and affordable materials that are robust enough to resist the extreme marine environment. Internally, colour and texture are used with discipline to create both calmness and joy.

The proposal keeps the footprint tight whilst emphasising natural light, ocean views, and connection with the garden and adjacent bushland.
